External monitor in Fujitsu® LifeBook 3110
Method to connect an external monitor in Fujitsu LifeBook 3110
Fujitsu LifeBook 3110 offers high performance, portability and lots of convenience but the drawback is its screen size. But it is possible to achieve more screen space by connecting the laptop in to an external monitor. Most Fujitsu laptops contain a video connection port through which it is possible to connect an external monitor and thereby increase screen size and get better resolution. For this you require a VGI or DVI cable. You can make the connection using a DVI or VGA cord corresponding to the port type. After connecting the external monitor your laptop will automatically identify it as a new hardware device and configure it.
Some of the things you should keep in mind while connecting an external monitor to Fujitsu LifeBook 3110 system are described below:
- Check the connecting ports
- Use correct function keys
- Verify the resolution
- Make sure of sufficient power
Check the connecting ports
For connecting an external monitor to the system, there might be VGA or DVI connecting port to both. You need to check whether both the laptop and monitor have the same port or not. You also need to make sure that ports on both the laptop and monitor are not damaged. If your laptop does not have a video connecting port, you can use a special adapter which is available from your manufacturer.
Use correct function keys
To toggle between the laptop screen and external monitor you can use the functions keys. Some of the common combinations used for toggle are FN+F5, FN+F3, FN+F9 and FN+F8. You are advised to refer to the laptop’s user manual to know about the right key for your system. With most laptops you can switch to the extended desktop mode.
Once you have the laptop connected to the external monitor or HDTV and the display comes up check the resolution, it might be out of resolution. To correct this, go to the graphics properties output set to the other external monitor, do not select dual output, set it to single output to the external monitor. Your netbook screen should go black once you do this, after doing this you can change the resolution of your monitor.
It is recommended that you use your laptop with the main power supply while you connect it to the external monitor. The laptop will consume more power while working on battery. It might cause overheating problems in the long run. If you are using the laptop with the battery, make sure that the battery is sufficiently charged. Sudden power failure might cause damage to your laptop. You should make sure that the external monitor is also receiving sufficient power.
