Fujitsu has announced the release of its new range of notebooks that include the Fujitsu Lifebook UH75H. The Japanese tech company claims Fujitsu Lifebook UH75H to be the world’s thinnest ultrabook, which measures just 15.6 mm at its thickest point and weighs only 2.9 pounds.

It is not quite as thin and light as the current ‘world’s thinnest ultrabook’, the Samsung Series 9, which comes in at 12.9 mm thick and 2.5 pounds.

The 14-inches display is surrounded by a super-slim bezel, complementing the simple red and black paint job, and a 13-inches Fujitsu Lifebook UH55H version is also available for those looking for a portable computing system with an even smaller footprint.

There is also a new ultraportable, the Fujitsu Lifebook SH76H, which weighs just 2.95 pounds and is 16.6 mm at its thinnest. The sleek profile does not prevent it from offering an integrated optical drive. Fujitsu claims this model will last almost 14 hours on a charge, about an hour longer than previously released models. Like all SH Series models, the Fujitsu Lifebook SH76H too has a 128 GB SSD.

There’s no word on pricing or availability of Fujitsu Lifebook UH75H yet.

Fujitsu has announced the release of iCAD V7L2, the latest version of iCAD V7, which is the company’s 3D CAD software for machinery design, with the world’s fastest CAD engine.

The iCAD V7L2 cuts both the amount of data that it works with and required memory to roughly double the processing performance of the 3D CAD engine(1). This accelerates operational speed on a wide variety of design studies and verifications, even on massive datasets representing hundreds of thousands of parts, and enables integration of a massive amount of design data.

It also includes newly developed security technology to prevent the copying or output of data, reducing the risk of leaks when transnational design teams collaborate. This means that design data that had previously been sent only on paper or verbally or intentionally not sent at all out of security concerns, can now be shared in a secured environment.

These technological developments sidestep the shortcomings of transmitting design data via paper, data conversion, or in spoken form, allowing teams at multiple locations, including overseas, to quickly share information. The fact that every location has direct access to the source data in real time means that on-site design, manufacturing, and maintenance processes can be carried out smoothly, and design work conducted more quickly and at higher quality.

The iCAD V7L2 will be exhibited at Fujitsu Forum 2012, scheduled to start from May 17-18 at Tokyo International Forum.

Fujitsu will undertake key planning, building and operation responsibilities, speeding the fiber roll out, with the company picking up an initial £50 million contract for its expertise. CityFibre intends to roll out fiber infrastructure to in excess of a million UK homes, and 50,000 businesses across the country.

“We are delighted to be working with Fujitsu. Fujitsu’s credentials in network deployment could not be stronger and few companies have as much knowledge of UK telecoms infrastructure. They are uniquely positioned to assist CityFibre in meeting our ambitious objectives across the entire fiber infrastructure spectrum, from mobile backhaul to metro networks and Fiber-to-the Premises,” said Greg Mesch, CEO of CityFibre.

The two firms have already joined hands to accomplish a previous project, with Fujitsu building CityFibre’s 100 km fiber optic network around the city of York. That network serves as the backbone for FTTP that is to be deployed across the city.

Fujitsu Laboratories Limited has officially announced the development of the world’s smallest and thinnest palm vein authentication sensor that is capable of being incorporated in tablet PCs. By upgrading the technology’s design with new image sensors and other optical components, Fujitsu Laboratories has successfully slimmed down the new sensor to a thickness of just 5 mm.

The newly developed sensor preserves the same authentication performance as prevalent technology while reducing the thickness of current models to half. This also enables easy deployment to mobile devices, such as tablets and slate PCs, which are getting slimmer day by day, and helps to expand the range of applications for palm vein authentication. With this newly developed sensor, more and more customers will be able to perform secure authentication by merely performing simple operations.

Fujitsu Laboratories will continue R&D into the commercialization of ultra-small palm vein authentication, with an objective to quickly bring to market miniature devices that employ them.

The research team of Fujitsu has designed a system that allows standard mobile phone cameras to capture pictures and videos in 3D.

The system is in the form of a small attachment about the size of a lipstick that lies flat across the mobile phone camera. The system uses a tiny set of mirrors to split an image or video recording into two parts. The captured two parts are then uploaded to a server that is operated by Fujitsu, which aligns the two different parts into a single 3D image or video.

“The heavy processing is carried out in the cloud. This means that there is no need for dedicated software or chip hardware in the smartphone. This technology allows for capturing 3D images using everyday smartphones or feature phones,” said Teruyuki Sato, a researcher at Fujitsu Laboratories.

The company will present the technology behind the new system at the International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE), which is scheduled to held from June 4 to 6 in Harrisburg, PA. At present Fujitsu is offering the attachment and server access for free to Japanese residents as a part of its promotional campaign.

If you are being conned on phone, Fujitsu, the renowned Japanese technology giant, can easily find out.

The company has developed a system, which can easily discern when someone gets trapped in a phone scam. In association with Japan-based Nagoya University, Fujitsu has merged a couple of technologies to determine when you are defrauded and potential problem conversations.

Amongst the two technologies combined, first is the audio analysis software. The software has the capability to track the pitch, as well as loudness of the suspected victim’s voice while talking on a phone. Ups and downs in pitch can be a sign that the victim is under stress. Voice recognition is another technology that is used to perceive whether you are in stress or not. It closely scans the words and tone of the person who is talking to the victim. Also, it counts the most frequently used words during phone scams, including repayment and debt, as listed by the National Police Academy.

To inform the victims as well as their relatives about the problem conversations, the company will initially start conducting tests with Nagoya University and a major bank. The company will also utilize the previously recorded phone scams.
